Gorse Covert Mounds
Welcome to the Gorse Covert Mounds which is a wonderful area for wildlife and recreation on the edge of Birchwood, Warrington. The site is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust and has an active Friends Group who are responsible for this website. If you are interested in keeping up-to-date with our activities please come along to one of our meetings or events and you can register for our e-newsletter if you want updates delivered to your mail box.
We have a wonderful array of wildlife in a diverse habitat as well as views to Manchester and the West Pennine moors (on a good day). The site forms an important wildlife corridor to other areas, including Risley Moss (SSSI) and benefits greatly from those areas. The mounds are used daily by many locals for exercise and dog walking and less frequently by many other people from other places. The Friends Group would like to welcome everyone to enjoy the site and simply ask that users respect the needs of others and take their litter home.

Site Update 2012
We have two brand new treasure trails on site which is very exciting. There is a new page on the website with more information here. Free to try them and feedback any comments.
It might be worth getting out sooner rather than later for this, as clues will become more difficult as the leaves come out on the trees.
Wildlife Survey 2012
Survey updates are now being fed back to the website and can be found under Wildlife menu heading.
